Star Wars Battlefront recommends 16GB of RAM and Skylake CPU

Star Wars Battlefront Recommends 16GB of RAM

It’s an exciting time, Star Wars Battlefront continues to exceed expectations and its beta is right around the corner.

As you can imagine, then, we can’t wait to give DICE’s next large-scale combat romp a go. And if you are too, and you just happen to be a part of the PC master race, just be sure your PC has enough memory to support this beast.

Powered by the mighty Frostbite 3 engine and developed by a team known for pushing graphical boundaries, Star Wars Battlefront looks unbelievable, particularly on PC.

But EA has just updated the minimum and recommended requirements for the game, and there are a few eye-popping hardware requirements indeed.

Minimum PC System Requirements

OS: 64-bit Windows 7 or later
Processor (Intel): Intel i3-6300T or equivalent
Memory: 8GB RAM
Hard Drive: At least 40 GB of free space
Graphics card (NVIDIA): nVidia GeForce GTX 660 2GB
Graphics card (ATI): ATI Radeon HD 7850 2GB
DirectX: 11.0 Compatible video card or equivalent
Online Connection Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection

Recommended PC System Requirements

OS: 64-bit Windows 10 or later
Processor (Intel): Intel i5-6600 or equivalent
Memory: 16GB RAM
Hard Drive: At least 40 GB of free space
Graphics card (NVIDIA): nVidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB
Graphics card (AMD): AMD Radeon R9 290 4GB
DirectX: 11.1 Compatible video card or equivalent
Online Connection Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection

It’s the recommended requirements we’re looking at specifically: 16GB of RAM, a GTX 970 or R9 290 and i5-6600. That’s some serious tech.

In fact, thanks to the recommended RAM (R1, 711), CPU (R3, 399) and GPU (R5, 199 or R4, 915, depending whether you go NVIDIA or AMD respectively), you’re looking to spend at least R10, 025, or R10, 309 for the GeForce route.

That’s awfully high recommended requirements, and why is EA recommending the likes of the i5-6600? That’s a part of Intel’s new Skylake range, which while solid performers means more expensive DDR4 RAM as well as a new LGA1151 motherboard, and previous Intel chips around the same clockspeed as the i5-6600 would work just as well.

Just as an example, 16GB of DDR3 RAM will only set you back a reasonable R1, 469.

It seems like Intel has persuaded EA to recommend their Skylake processors because we can’t see any other reason for not recommending prior Core CPUs.

Either way, that’s a lot of recommended compute power, even in the game’s minimum requirements. We bet console owners are smiling from ear to ear; that is until they see Star Wars Battlefront at 4k resolution that is.
