Look, they’re doing their bit – CD Projekt is launching The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings over their own site, GOG, and it’s coming DRM-free, bundled with a bunch of extra goodies, and tagged at a scandalously reasonable $44.99 (around about R300 or so). That covers most of the “I PIRATE GAEMZ BECUZ…” subordinate clauses.
So, if you’re planning on pirating it anyway, CD Projekt won’t be nice about it. Talking to Eurogamer, company co-founder Marcin Iwiński says that, “Of course we’re not happy when people are pirating our games, so we are signing with legal firms and torrent sneaking companies. In quite a few big countries, when people are downloading it illegally they can expect a letter from a legal firm saying, ‘Hey, you downloaded it illegally and right now you have to pay a fine. We are totally fair, but if you decide you will not buy it legally there is a chance you’ll get a letter.”
Whether or not those “big countries” includes South Africa remains to be seen, but consider yourself warned in the meantime.
