How to Stream PS4 games to your PC

On 6 April 2016, Sony released the 3.50 update for the PlayStation 4, adding a host of new features.

New features include the capacity for more storage (up to 4TB), the option to appear offline to your friends, and the ability to Stream PS4 content to your PC.

We took a look at the exact steps needed in order to set up in-home streaming between your PS4 and PC.

You are going to need:

  • Desktop or Laptop Computer
  • A PS4 system
  • A DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller
  • A USB cable
  • A Sony Entertainment Network account (PS Plus not required)
  • High-speed Internet connection

Install the official app on your PC:

  • You can find the official Ps4 Remote Play download here.
  • The download is available for both Mac and Windows systems, but you will need to have either OS X 10.10 or Windows 8.1 and higher.
  • Upon downloading the app, unpack and install it and you will be prompted to sign in to your Sony Entertainment Network Account.

Set up the PS4’s Remote Play settings:

  • In order to enable Remote Play, navigate to Remote Play Connection Settings and then select the checkbox to enable Remote Play.
  • You must also ensure that your PS4 is activated as your primary system. Navigate to Settings, PlayStation Network/Account Management, and then check the box to activate your primary PS4.
  • To start Remote Play while your PS4 is in rest mode, navigate to Settings, Power Save Settings, Set Features Available in Rest Mode. Then select the checkboxes for the Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning On PS4 from Network options.

Using Remote Play:

  • Turn on your PS4™ system or put it into rest mode.
  • Connect your DualShock 4 controller to your computer with a USB cable.
  • Launch the PS4 Remote Play app on your computer and sign in with your Sony Entertainment Network account when prompted.

You should now be able to stream PS4 games to your PC.

    1. The PS4 controller must be connected to your PC, the app requires it.
    2. Supposedly you can stream over the internet, but I haven’t really tested this yet. Tried once, it didn’t quite work out because the PS4 at home had gone to sleep. (I think)
    3. In what sense? I don’t think it’s region locked… if you’re in the USA with access to a PC and your PS4 is in SA, if you have set it up and have internet connectivity in both locations, you should be able to do remote play.
