Nvidia held a special livestream event on 6 May 2015, during which the company announced the new Pascal-powered GeForce GTX 1000 Series.

In addition to the reveal of the GTX 1080 and 1070 cards, Nvidia also showcased an amazing new piece of technology – Ansel.

Ansel is the name for the specialised in-game capture software from Nvidia, which gives gamers (and game photographers) a real tool to capture moments using the game engine instead of the Print Screen button.

Although the new technology was unveiled alongside the GTX 1080, it can be used with any 600 Series GeForce GTX card or newer. The technology will be integrated in a similar way to ShadowPlay and is set to arrive in games such as The Witcher 3 and Tom Clancy’s The Division.

There is much more to Ansel than just taking screenshots however, as the software includes a bunch of amazing features that change the way players experience game capture.

Check out some of the stuff you can do with Ansel below.

Super resolution screenshots

Combining high-resolution gameplay with integrated in-engine capture technology allows gamers to take a “super-resolution” screenshot of their games at 32x their native resolution.

360 degree capture

Ansel’s free camera means that players can capture full-resolution mono or stereo 360 images. These images can be viewed using everything from a VR headset to a mobile phone.
