Modders have had PCs and Kinect playing together nicely since a day or two after the motion controller’s launch in November 2010, but it’s all still kind of unofficial.
Talking to the BBC during CES last week, Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer has confirmed that official support will be coming to PC at some point. Currently, it would appear to be rather stupid not to implement PC Kinect support – especially with Asus introducing a market competitor with the inscrutably-named WAVI Xtion.
“We’ll support that in a formal way, in the right time,” Ballmer told the BBC. “When we have an announcement to make, we’ll make it. We certainly started out with Xbox, very focused on gaming. We’re trying to do two major things. We’re trying to move beyond gaming and include the world of socialisation, TV, movies, music. And we’re trying to make the whole experience accessible to everybody in the family, not just the traditional gamer.”
