Windows 10 is now the most popular operating system among Steam users, according to Valve’s latest Hardware and Software Survey.

Steam is the by far the most popular PC gaming platform, and it is fair to say that it represents a good sample of PC gamers around the world.

Support for the latest operating system from Microsoft has been rapidly growing, with Windows 10 gamers recently overtaking those still using Windows 7.

Previously, Windows 7 was the most popular operating system among Steam users, with Windows 8.1 trailing far behind.

Here is Steam’s operating system market share list for May 2016:

  • Windows 10 – 41.48%
  • Windows 7 – 38.60%
  • Windows 8.1 – 11.45%
  • Windows 8 – 1.62%
  • Windows Vista 0.31%
  • Windows XP 1.90%
  • MAC OSX – 3.60%
  • Linux – 0.64%

Windows 10 has been steadily growing, and may reach 50% Steam market share fairly soon.

Microsoft Windows remains the dominant operating system among gamers, with over 95% of Steam users using a Windows operating system.
