There is an insane amount of people playing Overwatch

A massive number of people have registered to play Overwatch since the game’s official release on 24 May 2016.

Over 7 million gamers have taken the plunge into Blizzard’s team-shooter, just 2 million shy of the game’s free beta.

When combined with a number of paid microtransactions available (allowing you to unlock a number of cosmetic items), the game is set to be a massive success.

Despite being a full-priced release on both PC and consoles and the presence of microtransactions, Blizzard has promised that all new heroes, maps, and game modes will be completely free.

Additionally, all cosmetic items available through microtransactions can be earned by playing.

“We poured a lot of effort into creating a game – and a new universe – that anyone could enjoy,” said Blizzard Entertainment co-founder and CEO Mike Morhaime.

“We’re ecstatic to have had such a successful launch, and we’re looking forward to all of the fun, competition, and new content still to come.”

Expect the numbers to rise as schools around the world break for their seasonal holidays.
