We want more black gamers in South African eSports

MyGaming recently attended the Mall Gaming Experience, an initiative by nAvTV and its various partners to try and promote eSports and gaming to the general South African public.

With a Cosplay competition, merchandise stalls, gaming stations, and a massive DOTA 2 competition, it is clear that gaming in South Africa is moving from strength to strength, but were does it go to next?

We spoke to Miles Regenass of MSI South Africa, one of the organisers behind the Mall Gaming Experience, about where he thinks the future of South Africa is heading.

“Our real issue is that we are not engaging with the up and coming black market. There is this massive group of people who own the newest consoles but spend their time playing select games like FIFA, NBA, Need for Speed and Call of Duty.”

“This market will only grow as LTE and FTTH are being introduced into traditionally black areas and the infrastructure for competitive gaming grows.”

“No one is trying to get them into League of Legends, DOTA 2 or Counterstrike GO – which is why we have events like the Mall Gaming Experience to try and reach as wide an audience as possible.”
