Why you can’t buy Counter-strike: Global Offensive as a gift during the Steam Summer Sale

24 June 2016

Several gamers were left perplexed after the Steam Client refused to allow them to purchase CounterStrike: Global Offensive as a gift.

The game, which is currently available for R79.50 as part of Steam’s Summer Sale, can still be activated directly on your main Steam account.

Redditor and Valve employee ido_valve has now explained why this is the case:

“CS:GO will not be giftable during the sale. Our goal with sales is to grow the community and historically, during sales, the new users that stick around are mainly the ones that purchase copies for themselves.”

The game should return to normal when Steam’s Summer Sale ends on 4 July.
