Bulletstorm PC requires constant connection – NOT! (But maybe.)

31 January 2011

Over the weekend, EA published some information about incoming FPS Bulletstorm on its official product disclosure page – including the rather ominous pronouncement that a “PERSISTENT INTERNET CONNECTION AND ACCEPTANCE OF END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT REQUIRED TO PLAY” for PC gamers.

Game developer People Can Fly was quick to deny this, however, with creative director Adrian Chmielarz posting on Twitter that “No, Bulletstorm PC does not require any constant connection, only for install and for online play (duh!).”

Duh. Whoever thought of requiring a constant connection for playing a single player game. Oh. Wait.

So probably just an exceedingly ill-conceived choice of words on EA’s part, or perhaps an exceedingly ill-conceived marketing campaign.

What remains a matter of speculation, however, is whether or not the game requires mandatory use of Games for Windows Live, which is pretty much universally reviled among PC gamers as the worst thing ever.

Bulletstorm drops 22 February, and – all this nonsense about persistent internet connections and GFWL aside – is looking quite awesome.
