Overwatch is the obvious contender for the top spot of this list.

The game has been massively successful and is still only in its infancy, recently adding in its first official iteration of competitive matchmaking.

The game features intense action and exciting team-play, delivering a refreshing, unique multiplayer shooter that defines its own genre.

Dark Souls III

Metacritic Score: 89

Dark Souls III is the highly-acclaimed final installment in the Souls franchise.

The game offers a hardcore, unforgiving multiplayer experience, allowing players to be invaded by others and team up to complete especially difficult boss fights.

Total War: Warhammer

Metacritic Score: 86

The Total War franchise has always contained a unique multiplayer element, offering armchair-generals the opportunity to command entire armies in battle.

Total War: Warhammer is the latest game in the franchise, and features a fantasy setting, something the Total War franchise did not branch out to until now.

Hearthstone: Whispers of the Old Gods

Hearthstone’s Whispers of the Old Gods expansion brings a variety of new cards and game mechanics to the popular trading card game.

Hearthstone is a refined, simple trading card game based in the WarCraft universe which is free-to-play and relatively easy to pick up.

The game also features competitive gameplay along with a ranked season ladder.

DOOM

Metacritic Score: 84

DOOM was met with a warm reception, despite early doubts as to the game’s multiplayer.

The title boasts fast-paced multiplayer which is slightly reminiscent of classic arena shooters.

Hearts of Iron IV pits players against each other in the arena of World War II.

Hearts of Iron IV is a grand strategy game, with a focus on global control and macro-management over specific battle control and action-packed combat.

Enter the Gungeon is a co-op dungeon crawler featuring roguelike elements and tons of replayability.

The game only features local multiplayer, but gamers can play on the same screen with multiple controls.

Duelyst is a unique trading card game which shares certain features with Hearthstone, but opts for a more complex tactics system.
