Coolest video game trailers of the past year

The Division

Before we get our hands on a game, we get treated to cinematic trailers which give us a better idea of the upcoming game’s concept and atmosphere.

Some of these trailers accurately foreshadow the epic concept of their respective games, and some are vastly better than the final product.

Some trailers are so epic that they are independently great, regardless of the quality of the actual game.

Let’s take a look at some of our picks for the most epic video game trailers released in the last year:

Tom Clancy’s The Division

Despite The Division having several PvP balance issues and not living up to a large portion of gamers’ expectations, the game still sold a great amount of copies and has been generally well-received.

The official cinematic trailer for the game promised a realistic, immersive, open-world multiplayer adventure and managed to captivate fans.

For Honor

For Honor is an upcoming multiplayer medieval combat game developed by Ubisoft.

Its trailer perfectly captures unique factions and fluid combat which will hopefully be reflected in the final product.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

The only live action trailer to make the cut, The Mechanical Apartheid conveys the tension and conflict present in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

The trailer accurately outlines the setting and theme of the game while portraying a unique perspective on the game’s story.

Battlefield 1

The reveal trailer for Battlefield 1 was insanely effective regarding the amount of hype it generated around the game’s time setting.

Set during World War I, Battelfield 1 engages players in high-intensity land combat and death-defying biplane aerobatics.

Mafia III

Mafia III features a gritty, modern concept which its reveal trailer easily conveys.

Paired with tracks like “All Along the Watchtower” and “House of the Rising Sun”, the trailer sets the stage for a mature, brutal third installment of the Mafia franchise
