PS Plus gets clever PS4-only additions

21 August 2013

Sony’s Playstation conference at Gamescom held quite a few announcements about the company’s services for the console, including some additions and updates to their online marketplace and gaming platform, Playstation Network. Playstation Plus subscribers have some great things to look forward to as the PS4 launch nears.

Sony’s Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, Andrew House, announced that Playstation Plus subscribers picking up a membership for use on their PS4 would be able to enjoy 90 extra days free on their membership. At launch, the console will feature a special edition of #Driveclub and Resogun for free to keep as long as the subscription is paid up.

PS4 owners without an active PS Plus subscription, or who don’t plan to pick one up for whatever reason, can also benefit from the free game offers. Sony will bundle a code with every PS4, offering buyers fourteen (14) free days of PS Plus on the console. Sony says that should be enough to finish either game and allow players to realise the benefits of the subscription.

Sony’s Jim Ryan also confirmed at the press conference that Playstation 3 owners would see some benefits as well. For a limited time, if you purchase the PS3 version of a major upcoming game with a PS4 version still on the way, for a limited time you will be able to redeem a coupon from Sony that allows you up to 75% off the retail price off the PS4 version. Game progress and rankings should still stay with you when you migrate over to the PS4.

Games mentioned include Assassin’s Creed 4, Watch Dogs, Battlefield 4, and CoD Ghosts.

I think I am getting the PSplus sub anyway… The free games every month alone make it more than worth the cash amount.
