Developer: The PS4 Pro is just rhetoric, here’s the real reason it was developed

While many are looking forward to the upcoming PS4 Pro and its enhanced abilities, one developer believes there’s a more secretive reason for the console’s development.

In an interview with Polygon, Tomonobu Itagaki creator of popular franchises like Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive, revealed the truth behind the PS4’s extra power.

“PlayStation 4 Pro is just rhetoric. The current gen doesn’t have enough power to support VR, so they’re releasing it to support VR”.

“I’m going to get in trouble again for saying this, aren’t I? Microsoft and Sony are going to be on my case for saying shit like this. PS4 Pro is not really their motivation. VR, which is what the upgrade is for, requires a lot of processing power.”

It’s an interesting take, but it doesn’t necessarily explain Microsoft’s Project Scorpio console which won’t feature a VR headset (as of yet).

It’s also worth noting that the PS VR can operate on a standard PS4 console, albeit with an added “power box” attached.
