Marvel vs. Capcom 4 could be coming to PlayStation 4

29 November 2016

It’s been a little while since we’ve seen a Marvel vs. Capcom game, with the third instalment releasing back in 2011, but rumours suggest a new instalment into the cult-followed series is destined to be unveiled this weekend.

The game is said to be lined up to make an appearance at the 2016 Playstation Experience event, which will take place this weekend.

According to Polygon’s sources, the popular fighting game series will return without its iconic X-Men characters, and instead be bolstered with more of Marvel’s other characters, including new faces from the cinematic universe, including the likes of Groot, Dr Strange and Thor, among many others.

This is because Capcom’s license with Marvel expired in 2013, and previous Marvel vs. Capcom games and their downloadable content were pulled from Microsoft and Sony’s online stores at the end of that year. Capcom hasn’t been able to make changes to the games since, despite pleas from fans to update the game.

It’s also rumoured that Marvel vs. Capcom 4 may be a PlayStation exclusive, given that Sony is working closely with Capcom on the project.
