Sony expects PSN back online “within a week”

28 April 2011

It’s been a week now since Sony hit the PlayStation Network killswitch following an otherwise unspecified “external intrusion”, and the company has finally started issuing public statements on the matter – most recently an official Q&A over on the official US PlayStation Blog.

Perhaps the most pressing concern for most PSN customers is when the service will be back online so they can play Portal 2 co-op. Sony’s senior director of corporate communications and social media Patrick Seybold says they’re “working day and night to restore operations as quickly as possible, and we expect to have some services up and running within a week from yesterday. However, we want to be very clear that we will only restore operations when we are confident that the network is secure.”

Not surprisingly, he writes also that “We are working on a new system software update that will require all users to change their password once PlayStation Network is restored.”
