50% of PlayStation players won’t be able to play Grand Theft Auto 6

5 June 2024

According to new data, only around half of all PlayStation players own PS5s with the rest all still using older PS4s.

This data noted that of the 118 million active monthly users on PlayStation, only around 59 million have upgraded to PS5.

Since Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently only scheduled to release on current generation consoles, half of all PlayStation owners will be able to play the hotly anticipated game when it releases this year.

There are also rumours that the upcoming PS5 Pro may also release around the same time as GTA 6 to capatilise on its popularity.

Rockstar has not confirmed the existence of a PC version of the game either, though based on previous release schedules its likely that it will come to PC a few years after releasing on console.

“Rockstar has an approach to platforms which we’ve seen before, and they’ll make more announcements in due time,” said Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick.

“I do believe that the right strategy for our business is to be where the consumer is, and historically what this company has done is address consumers anywhere they are, on any platform that makes sense over time.”
