Sony has confirmed to Kotaku that the sequel to Naughty Dog’s classic third-person action-adventure title, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will be released in the USA on October 13.
The local release date is likely to be inline with the European release date. At the time of publication the European release date has yet to be announced.
The multiplayer demo will become available on the Playstation Network (PSN) around September 30. The demo will only be playable until the game is released.
Uncharted 2 is easily one of the most anticipated PS3 exclusive of 2009. The original Uncharted was particularly well received, and is now considered a must-have title for PS3 owners.
Sony is promising that the sequel will live up to the standard of the original. Among Thieves promises to introduce new gameplay mechanics, including the opportunity to take the enemy on using stealth.
Developer Naughty Dog is promising a new level of environmental interaction. For example, players will be able to flip over desks and take cover. Naughty Dog has also claimed that the manner in which the player interacts with walls has been revamped, and is now similar to the mechanics employed in Assassin’s Creed.
Naughty Dog has also claimed that Among Thieves will have no loading screens. This means one continuous and fluid experience if executed correctly.
In terms of the story, there is still not very much information available. We know that players will once again step into the shoes of Nathan Drake. This time around, Drake delves into the mysteries that surround 13th century explorer Marco Polo.
The sequel will see Drake is pursuing the Cintamani Stone, which is a crystal that is said to grant the holder a wish. Drake, however, is not the only one interested in acquiring the crystal.
The original was one of the best looking console games available when it was released back in 2007. Based on the screen shots we expect that Among Thieves will push the boundaries further still.
