GTPlanet, a forum and news website dedicated to the Gran Turismo series has published a tentative release date for the next instalment, Gran Turismo 5.
According to the site an “unofficial but extremely reliable source” has confirmed that a 2009 release date is almost certain and that the highly publicised Amazon release date of 29 December is incorrect. The source did however indicate that Sony has not confirmed a date as of yet and so could change their plans at any point.
It is likely though that the company will announce GT5’s official release date at GamesCom on the 18th of August.
The game, which was initially revealed to the public at E3 2006 is set to feature a 16 member online multiplayer platform, dynamic weather changes and night racing. In addition GT5 will see the first WRC and NASCAR licensing in the franchises’ history.
At E3 2009 Kazonuri Yamauchi, part of the GT5 development team, announced that “We’ve actually reached a point where we can probably release it anytime, except that you can also keep working as long as you want to as well, it’s just a matter of timing.”
