Update 2 – Real 3.1 details

After numerous rumours regarding the inclusion of social networking platform Facebook to the Playstation Network Sony has officially revealed the details behind firmware update 3.1.

Among other fixes and inclusions the update does indeed incorporate Facebook into the PS3 experience. By linking a Playstation Network account to a Facebook account users can now have the option for their PS3s to automatically update their Facebook status feed with game updates including trophies earned and Playstation Store activity.

The update will also allow game developers and publishers to include specific criteria within titles to be posted to the users Facebook profile while gaming.

According to the official Sony PS blog “This is just the beginning of our integration with Facebook and we are looking forward to adding new features enhancing the experience in future updates.”

Additional 3.1 update highlights include:

• The Photo category on the XMB has been revamped to make it easier to see more of your photos stored on the PS3.

• The PSN Friends List has been modified based on feedback we received after update 3.00. Additionally, you can now choose a colour for your PSN ID on the XMB.

Update 3PS3 Firmware 3.1 now available

Original

Sony has released an update to its reportedly buggy PS3 3.0 firmware which caused a number of problems with selected Dual Shock controllers and introduced several bugs to games such as Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Wipeout: HD.
The update, which is currently live, is not mandatory. PS3 owners have a choice to download it and it will not kick players from an online session in order to download.

The firmware does not introduce anything new to the console but rather appears to have resolved the game freeze errors and other minor glitches experienced by some following the previous patch.

No report has yet come forward regarding version 3.1’s effect on PS3 Dual Shock controllers. Earlier this month My Gaming reported that a select number of ceramic white controllers, particularly counterfeit versions, were bricked by the update.
