PS3 to get 3D gaming in 2010

20 November 2009

Manufacturer Sony has confirmed that the Playstation 3 will indeed be upgraded at some stage to support stereoscopic three-dimensional visuals reports Shack News.

“All PS3 units will be firmware upgradeable to 3D,” the company recently declared to investors during meeting that highlighted plans to “release 3D games in line with Sony’s 3D strategy.”

The company has confirmed that it plans to launch the relevant update in its 2010 fiscal year, which runs from April 1st 2010 to March 31st 2011, adding that initiatives such as accelerating 3D theatre growth need to be finalised beforehand.

Sony also announced yesterday that it intends to return its gaming division to profitability next year through “hardware software/sales and enrichment of PlayStation Network services” coupled with “cost reduction and other measures.”

“In the online area, we are studying the possibility of introducing a subscription model, offering premium content and services, in addition to the current free services,” said Kaz Hirai, head of Sony Computer Entertainment, recently.
