Millions of gamers download MAG beta

One of the most interesting PS3 exclusives announced in recent times has to be MAG; an online first person shooter which promises to support up to 256 players at a time.

The game recently went into its public beta stage, where is faced numerous technical difficulties.

With the beta now closed, developer Zipper has released a number of interesting statistics regarding the public testing process.

Most interestingly, the game was downloaded over 1 million times around the world, with around 860,000 people taking part in North America alone.

On average, everyone who participated in the beta spent about 3.2 hours playing the game, while 619,000 made it to the first experience level. 52,846 players made it to Squad Leader, 10,249 became Platoon Leaders and only 143 players made it to the level 60 experience cap. A grand total of 225 years of gameplay was racked up by the collective beta testers.

The MAG beta has been widely considered a sucess, however, it remains to be seen how well this success will translate to unit sales when it hits shelves next week.
