Playstation 4 arriving worldwide in 2013: report

With the actual release date of the Playstation 4 still largely a mystery, a new source claims that the console will arrive worldwide in 2013.

GameStop’s (a large US game retailer) executive vice president of strategy, business, and brand development, Michael Hogan, gave some insight into when to expect the console.

“We know that Sony will introduce the PlayStation 4 globally in 2013, but we are still waiting to see what Microsoft’s final plans are. We have scenarios with one console introduction, as well as with two. Even a single launch in 2013 will drive double-digit console growth in 2014; and two launches would likely drive the console category north of 20% growth,” said Hogan.

Traditionally, Sony’s console would release in Japan within the fourth quarter, with the console then making its way across the globe the following first quarter of the next year.

Another source at GameStop, chief financial officer Robert Loyd, also added fuel to the year-end rumours.

“With Grand Theft Auto V and Battlefield 4 releasing in the third quarter, and the PlayStation 4 launching in the fourth quarter, we expect a return to growth for the back half of the year,” said Loyd.

So do you expect the Playstation 4 to arrive before the end of the year? If so, will you be picking one up before Christmas?
