The PlayStation 4’s remote play feature will be present in every PS4 game, allowing players to beam the console’s current game to the PS Vita for portable play.
The feature was confirmed through Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida, who wrote on Twitter: “Yes, it’s true unless the game requires specific hardware like the camera,” when asked if all PS4 games could be played on the Vita.
This ties in with many reports and promotional images, which touted that any PS4 game could be played on the PS Vita using Remote Play.
Remote Play works by downscaling the 1080p framebuffer to the Vita’s native 960×544 resolution, using the PS4’s in-built hardware h.264 video encoder to compress the image, as explained by Digital Foundry.
Remote Play has featured in a number of PS3 games, although many games were unplayable due to video encoding limitations. The PS4 is said to remedy these limitations, allowing all games to be playable on the Vita.
