Following the outcry over the Xbox One’s heavy emphasis on TV and media services, Sony has come out saying that the upcoming Playstation 4 console still remains dedicated to gaming.
“The most important thing we need to do is agree and understand that the PS4 is a great video game console that appeals to video gamers,” said Sony boss Kaz Hirai. “If we miss that part, I don’t think we get the initial establishment of the console. That formula has worked for us with all our consoles, including the PS3.”
Sony’s console reveal event was different to Xbox One’s due to the fact that a fair portion of the presentation was focused on upcoming games, although, the Hirai explained that the PS4’s other functions and features are still to be elaborated on in due course.
“Providing other non-game content is an area we will reveal and talk about in the coming months,” he said, “but it’s first and foremost a video game console.”
The hubbub around the lack of game demonstration for Xbox One seems rather silly at this stage, as undoubtedly the Xbox One will be hinging on games as its driving force. What we really need to compare is the quality of exclusives on each platform, and with both Sony and Microsoft building up to some big reveals at E3, we might just have to hang on a little longer before we get some real flame-wars fuel.

Playstation 4 considered the “perfect gaming PC”
Yeah I have to agree that the “outcry” was a bit silly. As someone that uses his Xbox for ALL his home entertainment, I’m very happy that MS will be expanding their offering on all fields. It’s quite obvious that it’s going to be a kick-ass gaming console though, and I can’t wait to see what developers will be doing a few years down the line when they start bringing out the best in the console.
