Playstation 4 launch “biggest yet” for Sony

Sony’s Jack Tretton recently announced that production for the PS4 was on schedule and that there were no problems popping up for the consumer electronics giant as it gears up for a launch in November 2013.

Tretton was speaking on the Fox Business News segment “3 Days in the Valley”, to highlight the launch of the PS4 and possibly a revolution in the console industry. On the PS4, Tretton said “there’s so much pent-up demand for it that we could sell every one we create. Over a million pre-orders is proof of that!”

“This is going to be the biggest launch in our history. It’s everything we can manufacture,” he continued. “We want to make sure that consumers have an opportunity to buy one on November 15 and through the holidays so we’re holding back some inventory to make sure that people [who come in on launch day] have an opportunity to buy one. But we can pre-sell every unit we can manufacture, and the good news is production yields have been phenomenal.”

This news follows leaks of pictures taken inside a warehouse in China currently assembling and manufacturing Playstation 4 consoles. The photos were taken by a member of the Chinese A9VG forums and show boxes for the PS4 with the final design as well as rows and rows of consoles waiting to be shipped.

The forum member, who remains anonymous, says that the factory is not the only only one in operation, and is shipping out just over a million consoles in time for the launch. The factory is apparently also responsible for assembling and shipping the Playstation 3 and PS Vita.

The pictures come after Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb,  Director of Programming for the Microsoft gaming network Xbox Live, posted pictures on Twitter showing the first batch of Xbox One consoles loaded into a container for shipping. Microsoft only began production on 4 September according to Nelson’s Twitter timestamp.
