This article will look at pre-order prices for Playstation 4 launch titles that have been listed on retailers’ websites. Not only will we be comparing prices between retailers, we’ll also be taking a look at which games will be stocked at which retailer.
Sony’s Playstation 4 will launch locally on 6 December 2013. Microsoft’s Xbox One will be coming to South Africa eventually, but Xbox South Africa has not confirmed a release date.
The table below shows the prices of various PS4 launch titles available from local retailers. The lowest prices are highlighted in Bold. For the purposes of this roundup, products listed as “Out of stock” will be included in the table, as games are generally easier and cheaper to ship than entire consoles. Prices are listed in South African Rands (R).
Please note that pricing on these products is tentative, and subject to change thanks to our fluctuating exchange rate. This table does not take into account special offers by retailers that require you to buy the console from their store at the same time (e.g. Incredible Connection). Collector’s and Premium Editions of the selected titles are not taken into account in the table below.
|PS4 Launch Game
|Need for Speed: Rivals||719.90||N/A||799|
|Call of Duty: Ghosts||719.90||649||765||799|
|Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag||719.90||649||799|
Notable omissions from the table are BT Games and Incredible Connection. Incredible Connection does not list any PS4 games for pre-order on their website (if they do, it’s very well hidden). BT Games has not listed any price points for their games as of yet, choosing to rather secure pre-orders with a deposit.
Kalahari has the cheapest pre-order prices for Call of Duty: Ghosts, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag and Watch_Dogs. Unfortunately the site does not have prices or placeholders for other launch titles. TAKEALOT appears to have a similar issue and only lists three titles as well.
AWX and Phoenix-Tech have the highest pre-order prices around but have previously assured customers and MyGaming that should the final game price be lower the customers will be refunded the difference. Should the price be higher, customers won’t have to fork out of their pockets to cover the difference.
In this roundup, CNA is the only retailer with consistent pricing and a interest-free six-month payment plan and becomes quite an attractive option for cash-strapped gamers.
Incredible Connection is offering a voucher for every launch game available from its store should you also pre-order a PS4 with them.
The following vouchers will be offered by Incredible Connection:
- Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag (releasing 6 December) – R100 off
- Battlefield 4 (releasing 6 December) – R100 off
- DriveClub (releasing 6 December) – R100 off
- FIFA 14 (releasing 6 December) – R100 off
- Killzone: Shadow Fall (releasing 6 December) – R100 off
- Knack (releasing 6 December) – R100 off
- LEGO: Marvel Super Heroes (releasing 6 December) – R100 off
- Watch Dogs (releasing 6 December) – R100 off
- Call of Duty: Ghosts (releasing 6 December) – R100 off
- Infamous: Second Son (TBC) – R100 off
- Destiny (TBC) – R100 off
- Playstation 4 Camera (releasing 6 December) – R100 off
UPDATE – An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that a two-year warranty was standard with the PS4. I have retracted this and apologise for any confusion. We’ll be contacting Ster-Kinekor today to see if they have any information on that front.
Sony’s Playstation 4 launches on 6 December 2013 in South Africa. Pricing has been set by Ster-Kinekor at a tentative R6299 and the console will come with a Dualshock 4 controller, 500GB of user-accessible storage space and a free 14-day trial for Playstation Plus.
