Xbox One vs PS4

Sony has announced that the Playstation 4 will support voice control, voice recognition, and gesture controls using the PlayStation Eye, as well as support for recording gameplay through an HDMI capture device.

The new features were announced in a keynote by Sony at the opening of the Tokyo Games Show 2013.

Sony says that the Playstation Eye will have several uses outside of games. The PS Eye will support voice recognition and control as well as gesture controls, although these features have not been detailed or demoed as of yet.

The announcement brings Sony’s console capabilities to the same level as the Xbox One, which uses Kinect to support gesture controls and voice recognition.

The PS Eye won’t be shipped with the console but is available as an add-on peripheral sold separately. South African pre-order prices hover around the R900 price point.

Sony additionally made a brief announcement that they were changing the way HDCP works in games, allowing the “Lets Play” generation of Youtubers to capture and livestream their own footage in addition to using the sharing features on the console itself.

Sony will announce more details about HDMI capture at a later date.

The Eye for gesture control… not even sony seems very confident on it, more importantly this has to be the console generation of going back on their words (ie. HDCP removed during gameplay)
