PS4 boasts cool digital game sharing options

Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida, president of of Sony’s Worldwide Studios for Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., has confirmed that digital games can be shared on the Playstation 4 in the same manner currently possible on the Playstation 3.

Replying to a Tweet from Peter “famousmortimer” Dodd on Twitter, Yoshida acknowledged that one could purchase games digitally on a console designated as the “Home” console and have those games shared between other users on that console.

At the same time, it’s possible to sign in to your account on a second Playstation 4 elsewhere, download your games that you have associated to your account and play them at the same time as anyone on the first console.

This opens up some interesting combinations possible with Sony’s Playstation Plus subscription. You can have both consoles receive free games through PS Plus, yet have different people playing them. In addition, only one PS Plus subscription is needed attached to a profile on the home console to allow other players to enjoy multiplayer online gaming.

Its also theoretically possible to have both consoles identified as “Home” consoles to two accounts, which means that two friends can share their digital collection with each other and play the same, or different games at the same time on their own accounts.
