PS4 error deletes game progress, bricks consoles

21 January 2014

User reports are emerging on the PlayStation forum of a diabolical error that is corrupting save game files for a number of titles.

The error code is: CE-34878-0

The error was first reported on the PlayStation forum on 4 December 2013 and there are now over 350 complaints of similar nature in this thread alone.

Users have been losing hours upon hours of progress for no apparent reason, and the cloud save feature seems to be affected as well, meaning progress cannot be recovered.

In the worst cases, applications cannot be restarted, rendering the console useless. Many users have reported no choice other than to have their PS4 replaced by their retailer.

The problem seems indiscriminate, with Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 3, FIFA 14, Assassin’s Creed 4, and NBA 2K14 all being implicated.

Sony has yet to respond to the issue.

Have you got a PS4? Has it been behaving? Let us know in the comments.

Random crashes during Battlefield 4, yes (can tear my hair out). Fatal crashes, no 🙂
