“Most people think PlayStation Home is s***”, says dev

28 May 2010

PlayStation Home has been in beta for around 18 months now, which works out to around “forever” in the warp speed world of technology. But does anyone actually like it?

“Most people think that Home is s***,” said Home dev, Kirk Ewing, at a recent event in Scotland. “I’m here to say that it’s not.”

Ewing works over at Veemee, the company responsible for a bunch of Home spaces, including London Pub, The Audi space, and licensed t-shirt vendor, V-store. He added that, despite what looks very much like otherwise overwhelming public opinion to the contrary, the service is popular with users.

He went on to quote Sony’s own substantiating figures, claiming that one in three PS3 owners is using the service, with 1.7 million repeat users clocking up an average of 53 minutes in the virtual hub.

Home is scheduled to come out of beta in December.
