PS4 sales strong in Japan

According to a report on Famitsu (as translated by Siliconera), the PlayStation 4 has sold 322,083 units so far in Japan, having launched on 22 February 2014.

DualShockers is reporting that large retailers are now running out of stock, such as Amazon Japan, Edion, and Rakuten. Sony Japan is reportedly gearing up to replenish stock on 26 February.

This means PS4 has similar sales figures to the Wii U launch week, which racked up 308,570 units sold.

Both consoles pale in comparison to the PS2, which sold 630,552 units during its first two days of sale back in March 2000, according to Famitsu.

The PS4 is doing better than the PS3, which sold 88,443 units in Japan during its first two days of sale in November 2006.

Last official word from Sony was that PS4 has sold 5.3 million units worldwide, meaning it already beat their fiscal targets. Sony is expected to announce its full financial results in May 2014.

Of course, the PS4 has zero competition from Microsoft who has yet to launch its Xbox One in the region. Microsoft’s latest stats boasted 3.9 million Xbox One consoles sold by end of December 2013.
