PS4 firmware 1.62 out now, strangely large file

19 March 2014

Don’t get too excited fellow PS4 owners – the latest PS4 firmware version 1.62 is live, but it does not add anything amazing, apparently just improving “operation quality”.

At 336MB large, the official patch notes are vaguely to-the-point:

“Operation quality during use of some PlayStation 4 software has been improved.”

The update is not mandatory meaning you can continue your daily gaming without updating your console, but your console will start the update and prepare to install it with or without your consent anyway.
