Sony officially confirmed its premium PlayStation Network service at E3 last week. Without removing any of the current services from its free to use PlayStation Network, they are introducing a subscription based premium service which gives those who are willing to pay for it a range of cool extra features.
More details have been revealed, including pricing.
What South Africans will pay
One year subscription – R489 (Works out to R40.75 per month)
3 month subscription – R145 (Works out to R48.33 per month)
This pricing is slightly higher than what gamers in the US will pay: $49.99 (R377) per year, or $17.99 (R135) for 3 months.
What you get
– One free downloadable game.
– Two free PS Minis.
– One free PS1 Classic
These will only be playable for as long as you are an active PlayStation Plus subscriber. Once you unsubscribe, the games will become locked.
– Discounts 20-50%
Discounts will vary between titles, but if you buy a game with your PlayStation Plus discount, it will be yours to keep, and you won’t have to retain your PlayStation Plus subscription to access them.
– Free stuff – Two dynamic themes, two premium avatars, game add-ons.
These will be yours to keep forever.
– Two full game trials. You will be able to download and play games for free, with a time limit of 60 minutes- thereafter the game will lock and you will be given the option to purchase it and continue playing.
– Automatic downloads. Your PS3 can be set to be automatically woken up from standby mode to download game updates, demos, and system firmware. Once downloads have completed, your PS3 will go back to standby mode. When you next start the console, all completed downloads will be listed.
The PlayStation Plus service will kick off on June 29. The first month has some awesome free content lined up for launch subscribers.
