It’s that time of year, when all the big companies release their financial results for Q1, and Sony will be pretty happy with its own, particularly with regards to PlayStation sales.
According to the report, 3 million PlayStation 4 consoles were sold between April and June 2015, which is more than twice as many units as Xbox One and Xbox 360 units combined.
Only 1.4m Xbox consoles were sold by Microsoft during the same period, 53% fewer than PS4, but 27% up on the prior year. It isn’t known how many of those were Xbox Ones.
It’s unclear exactly how many PS3s were sold during the same quarter, although the number is said to be down year-on-year, as expected.
As a result, Sony’s success has seen the Japanese company increase its full-year sales projections for PS4 from 16m to 16.5m.
Sony also launched a 1TB PS4 earlier this month, but no official price-drop has been announced for the standard 500GB console.
It seems only appropriate given the recent R800 drop in the Xbox One’s price. We wait in anticipation…
And here’s hoping that 1TB PS4 and PS TV bundle currently exclusive to the UK eventually makes its way to SA.
