Gran Turismo 5 gets final release date

14 November 2010

It has been a long road for GT5 fans, and it was starting to look a bit like the game was not going to make its planned late-2010 release date. However, Sony has given final confirmation that the much anticipated racing simulator will finally hit shelves on November 24 in the US as well as Europe.

SterKinekor is responsible for the distribution of  Sony’s games in SA, but since the news broke over the weekend, we have not been unable to confirm a local release date just yet. However, SA’s release schedule typically follows Europe’s, so we can expect to at least see the game out by the end of the month.

The last release date given was November 2, so that obviously didn’t happen. Sony announced a few weeks ago that the game had been pushed back slightly, but would still be out in time for the “holiday season”.

“Satisfying the loyal Gran Turismo followers is at the heart of all of our efforts, which is why it was such a difficult decision to delay the release of the game, and one which we did not take lightly,” said Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi in the official press release.

“I can only apologize to everyone for making you wait so long, and I hope that when you try out the wealth of driving experiences available in Gran Turismo 5, you will not be disappointed.”

Gran Turismo 5 is being released exclusively for PS3, and many racing fans anticipate that it will be the best racing simulator released to date. Over 1,000 cars will be available to race around 71 different tracks spread accross 26 locations.

World Rally Championship, as well as NASCAR and Super GT licenses have been secured for the game, and Sony has boasted that it will feature an impressive new damage model, night racing and a variety of weather effects.
