On Tuesday we reported that Sony would be releasing a new PS4 system with updated features and 4K resolution support.
A NeoGaf insider has subsequently leaked more details about the console, including the news that the new “PS4K” could boast twice the graphical power of the current PS4 system.
They stated that the GPU is twice as powerful as standard PS4 and much faster. They did not say exactly how fast but that is was running at a higher clock speed while being much smaller than the original.
In addition user OsirisBlack stated that the new console would continue to retail at the RRP of $399.99 but that unconfirmed CPU upgrades could see the new console rise to as high as $499.99.
The system will allegedly also ship with a 4K Bluray player and a suite of VR media options to take advantage of the upcoming Playstation VR.
Perhaps most interesting (and controversial) is the rumour that developers already have access to PS4K dev units and will be specifically targeting the new hardware with upcoming games. These newer games will continue to work on the current PS4 system but with “considerable sacrifices made to performance”.
This is all purely conjecture at the moment with Sony not having confirmed the existence of the PS4K console at all. Given the amount of leaks over the last few days however, it is clear that new console hardware is definitely being considered by Sony.
