Citing industry “insider whispers”, the latest issue of the UK’s Official PlayStation Magazine is reporting that an HD remake of the original Metal Gear Solid trilogy is apparently “in the facelift queue” for a PS3 relaunch.
Although neither Sony nor Konami have made any official statement on the rumour, perhaps significantly nobody’s denying it either. And with the recent HD reissues (and announcements of HD reissues) of God of War, Prince of Persia, and Tomb Raider, and Team Ico prepping Ico and Shadow of the Colossus for an HD bundle, it hardly seems an unlikely contingency.
It’s almost three years since Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots came out on PS3, and the sequel, Metal Gear: Rising, isn’t due until sometime in 2012. An HD makeover of the trilogy would fill the space rather nicely.
So file this under “RUMOUR” for now, but expect official confirmation any moment.
