Natasha Maksimovic, 21, of Ontario, Canada has filed a class action lawsuit against Sony Canada, Sony USA, and “other Sony entities” with Toronto firm McPhadden Samac Tuovi LLP, suing the company for C$1 billion (a little over US$ 1 billion, or about R6.7 billion) for the recent PSN security breach.
“If you can’t trust a huge multi-national corporation like Sony to protect your private information, who can you trust?” says Maksimovic in a statement. “It appears to me that Sony focuses more on protecting its games than its PlayStation users.”
The damage cash is being claimed to cover the “costs of credit monitoring services and fraud insurance coverage for two years,” although it’s not clear whether this is on behalf of 3.5 million or so Canadian users, or the global network of 78 million account holders whose personal data has allegedly been compromised.
This is the second class action lawsuit filed against Sony – last week, an American slapped the company with his own litigation, although the amount being claimed has not been disclosed.
