According to an anonymous tip off from someone who sent in photographic evidence that they are already in possession of the game, GT5 will require 6.4GB of harddrive pace to install.
Gamersmint reports that the install takes around 40 minutes, and the game will continue to decompress and write data to the harddrive throughout as you play through it, so even more disk space is expected to be required.
However, there will be an option to not install the game at all, instead running it from the disk. It is highly recommended, however, that you do install it in order to achieve optimal performance.
Gran Turismo 5 is set for release on PS3 on November 24, 2010.
