Yamauchi talks GT5 problems, updates, cuts, more

1 December 2010

Gran Turismo 5 creator Kaz Yamauchi has been all over Twitter in the last few hours, answering fan questions that reveal stuff about current in-game issues and future updates, and features that were cut and won’t ever be coming back.

Most significantly, perhaps, Yamauchi confirms that mechanical damage dynamics – over and above cosmetic damage, that is – will be implemented in an update coming “early December”. Polyphony Digital is also still working to fully support the Logitech G25 and G27 controllers, solve problems with the “sometimes blocky shadows”, and add online lounge functionality and “other features”. The option to disable the in-game HUD is also under consideration.

Elsewhere, he explains that the face-tracking in GT mode and the previously-announced YouTube replay upload feature were yanked due to memory constraints. He also talks about a sort of free roam mode where “where players could drive around, respecting speed limits and obeying traffic laws, and even exit the car to walk around and explore the environment on foot”, that was never realised for no reason given, but presumably because it sounds kinda rubbish.

Also, the game’s official 2-disc soundtrack will be released soon.
