Watch PS4 consoles being smashed at launch

18 November 2013

Sony’s Playstation 4 console launched to much fanfare in the US and Canada on 15 November. Across the two countries many gamers attended lineups to receive their consoles at midnight. But some lined up to buy the console, and then proceeded to smash them in full view of the public.

Several Youtubers and anonymous people have posted up their videos smashing a brand new PS4. These guys don’t even stop to pull out the hard drives first, or salvage that gorgeous Playstation-branded Philips screw. Debris and curses fly everywhere in some videos.

One reason why people do this is for the entertainment factor – generating hits by doing sensationalist things to create controversy. A recent video where a PS4 meets a .50 caliber long-range rifle is more for science than anything else, but the videos below are a little disturbing.

Why people feel the need to smash these consoles is something I’ll never understand. But if you do, hit me up first – I’ll pay you to not smash it and give it to me instead!
