Grow Home - PS4 Review

Welcome to the minimalist, low poly world of Grow Home, a gorgeously gratifying place with tons of exploration and platform goodness.

With a lovely drone ambient soundtrack, get ready to save a planet and disassociate.

Grow Home - PS4 Review

Here is your best B.U.D, cute and weird like every robot should be.

Grow Home is a spectacular game and is free in September’s round of PS+ games. A game that brings back happy, carefree and indescribably pleasant emotions reminiscent of days playing games Spyro the Dragon as a child.

With LIMBO last month and now this epic, PS+ free games are really starting to sharpen up.

Developed by Ubisoft Reflections and published by Ubisoft, another fantastic addition to the stalwart group’s indie repertoire.

Available to PC users since February of this year, PlayStation owners can now finally play this immersive classic.

Grow Home - PS4 Review

When it comes to their indie titles, Ubisoft never fails to amaze.

Originally planned on being released amongst co-workers, the game proved to be too wonderful just for private use and was proliferated for mass-consumption.

Using the Unity engine, players will proceed in a world that continually develops and reacts to your efforts with malleable intrigue.

You take on the role of ‘B.U.D’, a tiny bipedal automaton tasked with growing a titanic bean stalk called ‘Star Plant’ up into the atmosphere and beyond. This will ensure the oxygenation of its home planet.

B.U.D is guided and informed by the sentient intelligence M.O.M which will instruct and help you.

The floating islands are hosts of varied life and hidden goodies.

The extreme heightening of the colossal plant is done by extending ‘Star Shoots’ which bud along its stalks and connecting them to ‘Energy Rocks’, causing the bean stalk to shoots up higher into the air.

This will allow B.U.D to climb up onto different ascending islands.

The little guy uses his limbs to attach to and climb surfaces by alternately tapping L1/R1 or L2/R2.

Of course, there will be much plummeting to your destruction, but keeping a leaf or flower in your back pack will help you float to safety.

Like a lot of this game, gliding is much fun.

These massive floating islands are filled with flora and fauna and various creatures. Dragging individual life into the teleporting devices which also act as your checkpoints will scan and save a being.

There are also many crystals for the player to extract, which will upgrade B.U.D and unlock devices like jet packs.

Make sure not to miss this peachy title. My only issue with the PS4 version was no VSync and noticeable screen tearing as a result.

Score: 9/10
