{"id":100587,"date":"2016-08-10T12:59:33","date_gmt":"2016-08-10T10:59:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=100587"},"modified":"2016-08-10T13:00:19","modified_gmt":"2016-08-10T11:00:19","slug":"how-powerful-is-the-hardware-inside-the-playstation-neo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/pc\/100587-how-powerful-is-the-hardware-inside-the-playstation-neo","title":{"rendered":"How powerful is the hardware inside the PlayStation Neo?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sony has announced its next-generation\u00a0gaming console, PlayStation Neo, which will be more powerful and more efficient than the current PlayStation 4.<\/p>\n<p>The company has remained relatively quiet regarding the device&#8217;s potential performance capabilities, although we have some idea of the hardware present inside the system thanks to an early <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/hardware\/98786-first-official-playstation-neo-specifications-leaked.html\" target=\"_blank\">specification leak<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/articles\/digitalfoundry-2016-we-built-a-pc-with-playstation-neo-gpu-tech\" target=\"_blank\">Digital Foundry<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0has used the leaked specifications of the PlayStation 4 Neo in order to simulate its performance using a PC gaming rig.<\/p>\n<p>This concept is quite reasonable, as PlayStation Neo hardware will use AMD Radeon Polaris hardware and is closer to a PC platform than previous console iterations.<\/p>\n<p>Because this test aims to measure graphics processing power, it focusses purely on graphics performance.<\/p>\n<p>Below is a specification comparison of the Radeon RX 480 and the PlayStation Neo&#8217;s leaked specifications.<\/p>\n<div class=\"myg_table\">\n<div class=\"table-responsive\"><table class=\"table\" border=\"0\" width=\"100%\" cellpadding=\"7\">\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th colspan=\"3\">PlayStation Neo\u00a0and Radeon RX 480 Specifications<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th><\/th>\n<th>\n<div align=\"left\">PlayStation 4 Neo<\/div>\n<\/th>\n<th>\n<div align=\"left\">Radeon RX 480<\/div>\n<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"30%\"><strong>GPU<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"35%\">36 GCN compute units at 911MHz<\/td>\n<td width=\"35%\">36 GCN compute units at max 1,266MHz<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Memory Bandwidth<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>8GB GDDR5 at 218GB\/s<\/td>\n<td>4GB GDDR5 at 224GB\/s<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Compute Power<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>4.2TFLOP\/s<\/td>\n<td>Reduced clock to 911MHz for 4.2TFLOP\/s<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The graphics capabilities of the Radeon RX 480 and PlayStation Neo are similar enough to reasonably simulate the GPU performance of a PlayStation Neo by under-clocking\u00a0the Polaris graphics card.<\/p>\n<p>Because graphics performance is the sole focus of the simulation, Digital Foundry used a <strong>Core i7 6700K<\/strong> processor in order to avoid bottlenecks.<\/p>\n<p>Below is the framerate of the PlayStation Neo simulation machine running Star Wars Battlefront at various resolutions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>1,600 x 900<\/strong> &#8211;
