Sony will phase out the PlayStation 4 in favour of the new Slim version of the console, the Wall Street Journal<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0reports.<\/p>\n

This follows recent leaked images<\/a><\/strong> of the PlayStation 4 Slim, which is considerably smaller than the current PlayStation 4 console.<\/p>\n

According to the report, Sony plans to announce\u00a0a new PlayStation 4 standard model<\/strong> along with its upcoming PlayStation Neo console at its event next month.<\/p>\n

The new standard model is reportedly expected\u00a0to be the PlayStation 4 Slim, which could be cheaper than the current device.<\/p>\n

The PlayStation 4 will be phased out in favour of the new Slim version of the console, with Sony employing a similar hardware roll-out to that of\u00a0Microsoft.<\/p>\n

Both companies have introduced slim, updated standard models of their respective consoles, and are set to reveal their next generation of hardware soon.<\/p>\n

The report also states that Sony has cut production of the current model of the PlayStation 4\u00a0in anticipation of the upcoming news conference in September.<\/p>\n

The company is expected to reveal two new consoles at its September news conference, namely the PlayStation 4 Slim<\/strong> and the “Neo<\/strong>” – its next-gen\u00a04K-Ready gaming console.<\/p>\n
