ShowMax is\u00a0officially one year old,\u00a0and to celebrate they have introduced a new logo design.<\/p>\n
It’s clear that Naspers\u2019 is taking its video-on-demand (VOD) streaming service very seriously, but how big\u00a0has ShowMax become?<\/p>\n
While ShowMax remains silent about its number of actual subscribers since it launched in August 2015, it says that it has achieved 10 million \u201cviews\u201d<\/strong> over the past year.<\/p>\n At the time of writing it currently offers 600 movie titles<\/strong> and 365 TV series<\/strong> all at the launch price of R99<\/strong> per month.<\/p>\n This low price point, and continued development means that the company is is expected to break even in 2021 when it reaches 800,000 subscribers<\/strong>, reports Morgan Stanley<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n So how does this compare to a service like Netflix which, despite having existed for over a decade, only recently made its way to local shores?<\/p>\n According to JustWatch,\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>Netflix currently offers 742 movies<\/strong> and 267 TV series,<\/strong> with the cheapest monthly option coming in at $7.99<\/a><\/strong> a month (R108.00<\/strong>).<\/p>\n That means ShowMax has technically surpassed\u00a0Netflix in some areas, although Netflix does have\u00a0greater international support.<\/p>\n Do you have a ShowMax or other streaming subscription?
