Niantic recently took a heavy-handed stance regarding the violation of it’s Terms of Service, issuing permanent bans<\/a><\/strong> to players who were using third-party tools to interfere with the game or its API.<\/p>\n

While a large amount of those banned have probably deserved their fate, Niantic has given some Pokemon GO players a second chance.<\/p>\n

Niantic’s efforts to clean up its player base involved blocking bots and data scraping operations, effectively banning players who used third-party add-on map tools.<\/p>\n

After recently changing its infrastructure, Niantic has unbanned players who were using add-on map tools, according to an official blog post<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This collection of players is only a small subset of banned accounts and accounts banned for other reasons will not have their bands lifted.<\/p>\n

Niantic warns that using these add-on maps which scrape data from its servers is still against its ToS, and could still result in a permanent ban.<\/p>\n
