{"id":102897,"date":"2016-08-31T12:19:03","date_gmt":"2016-08-31T10:19:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=102897"},"modified":"2016-08-31T12:20:45","modified_gmt":"2016-08-31T10:20:45","slug":"this-is-how-many-south-africans-are-addicted-to-the-internet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/entertainment\/102897-this-is-how-many-south-africans-are-addicted-to-the-internet","title":{"rendered":"This is how many South Africans are addicted to the Internet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Modern research agency Columinate recently conducted a survey with 2,000 connected South Africans to determine their internet behaviours and uncover their attitude\u00a0towards\u00a0the world wide web.<\/p>\n<p>The results were startling, with 30% of South African&#8217;s surveyed showing signs of some form of Internet addiction.<\/p>\n<p>Check out the statistics below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>67%<\/strong>\u00a0 of people feel an urge to use it every day.<\/li>\n<li><strong>64%<\/strong> can\u2019t go a day without using it<em>.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>50%<\/strong> say it has interfered with their daily lives.<\/li>\n<li><strong>39%<\/strong> use it when they are stressed, anxious, or depressed to make themselves feel better.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These signs typically refer to a condition known as IAD (Internet Addiction Disorder) or PIU (Problematic Internet Use).<\/p>\n<p>While not yet classified as a mental disorder by the Psychiatric Association, the scientific community is starting to sit up and take notice.<\/p>\n<p>Columinate\u2019s survey was by no means a psychiatric evaluation tool, but it is concerning that about 30% of people who took part in the survey showed signs of addiction to the Internet.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>How much time do you spend on the internet each day?
