South Africa’s internet landscape is constantly changing, with the rapid rollout of fibre, increased LTE coverage, and better value ADSL packages on the horizon.<\/p>\n

But what’s the next big thing? We asked two of South Africa’s top ADSL experts about what they think is the next\u00a0step for Internet in South Africa.<\/p>\n

Joe Botha – Octotel<\/h3>\n

Joe Botha believes that things will only get faster from here on.<\/p>\n

“For the home market, I think the next wave is getting at least a 100Mbps fibre connection to every urban home at a reasonable price.”<\/p>\n

“This means upgrading ISP networks to deliver the speeds people expect to see on these new links.”<\/p>\n

“The future isn’t that far away either, 1Gbps links are fairly easy to find now,” said Botha.<\/p>\n

“We could in theory provide links up to 2.5Gbps – but the copper 1Gbps Ethernet port will be the limit. Expect to see around 900Mbps of actual data transfer.”<\/p>\n
