It’s never been a more exciting time to be a console gamer in South Africa.<\/p>\n
Two new consoles, the Xbox One S and the PlayStation 4 Pro, are bringing with them a number of awesome technological improvements and (hopefully) killer new games.<\/p>\n
But don’t jump on the bandwagon just yet – in the case of both consoles the technology to support these new features just isn’t there.<\/p>\n
Starting with the Xbox One S, while you will be getting a smaller console, larger hard drive, and new controller, the\u00a0HDR-functionality<\/a><\/strong> is practically useless unless you have the TV to back it up.<\/p>\n At the same time, it’s native 4K functionality only applies to videos, meaning your gaming experience wouldn’t improve over a traditional Xbox One console.<\/p>\n Some games on the Xbox One S can be upscaled from 1080p to 4K, which\u00a0will once again require the purchase of a 4K television and will not deliver the same effect as native 4K gaming.<\/p>\n Considering Project Scorpio will also be launching in just over a year, it becomes a no-brainer to hold off on buying an Xbox One S unless you absolutely need to<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n The same goes for the upcoming PlayStation Pro which will (hopefully) launch in South Africa before the end of the year.<\/p>\n Not only will PS VR be perfectly compatible with your current PS4, only certain games <\/a><\/strong>will be getting the up-scaled 4K treatment.<\/p>\n At the end of the day, we’re not saying “don’t buy the new consoles”, just that it may be a smarter idea to hold off on upgrading your PS4 or Xbox One until these new features are fully fleshed out.<\/p>\n Update:<\/strong>\u00a0Added\u00a0a\u00a0paragraph to explain that\u00a0the Xbox One S can upscale games to 4K.<\/p>\n The best graphics cards you can buy for under R2,500<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n
